United Will Use Chelsea Loss As Motivation Against Liverpool Match, Says Ten Hag
Manchester United’s late defeat against Chelsea on Thursday is expected to serve as a source of motivation for the team as they prepare to welcome Premier League leaders Liverpool this weekend, revealed manager Erik Ten Hag.
Acknowledging the disappointment of the 4-3 loss, Ten Hag stressed the significance of using that frustration as a driving force for United as they seek to narrow the nine-point gap to the top five in the league.
“We have to recover very quickly. We have to turn this around, so from tomorrow we will be in a positive mood,” he told reporters. “We will be mad, and angry and you can take a lot of energy from that.”
Sitting in sixth place in the table with 48 points, Manchester United have lost five points this week as a result of late goals conceded in both the defeat at Chelsea & the 1-1 draw away to Brentford last Saturday.
“The points are getting very expensive because the games are running out,” the Dutchman said. “We need to learn how to win games, how you bring big games over the line and get the three points.”
Ten Hag expressed confidence in this United side, highlighting their character & resilience, particularly referencing their recent victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals last month.
“You have seen we have qualities. We have some great players. We can be in momentum and we can play at very high standards,” he said.
“We can compete with the best and we can beat the best teams in the Premier League.”
