Usman Garuba: He Reminds Me Of Draymond Green – Steve Kerr On Warriors’ Star Future
Steve Kerr and the executives of the Golden State Warriors were thrilled when they saw the opportunity to acquire Usman Garuba from Spain.
They were particularly excited because his attributes closely matched those of two key players on their team.
At just 21 years old, he has been signed to a two-way contract, which also includes playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA’s G League.
Kerr is rooting for the youngster and piled applause on him during a recent interview.
“He reminds me a little bit of Draymond Green and Kevon Looney,” Kerr said, as reported by EFE.
He added: “He’s a player we liked in the draft a couple of years ago and, when he became available this summer, we jumped at the chance.
“He may not be a long-range threat, as he’s not a shooter or the typical player that everybody is looking for, but he understands the game.
“He’s a good passer and, when he gets minutes, he brings meaning to the game.
“Players who are on the court with him enjoy it.
“He will play a lot for Santa Cruz, and he is still very young and needs to develop. But, we are happy with him.”
