Villas-Boas Officially Announces Bid For Porto Presidency
The ex-Porto coach, Andre Villas-Boas, has expressed his desire to assume the role of president of the club through an upcoming April election.
Villas-Boas announced his candidacy on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Sportxparte understands.
By this, the 46-year-old, who previously led Porto to victory in the Europa League, Portuguese league title, and Portuguese Cup in 2011, has set the stage for a potential competition against Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.
Pinto da Costa has been at the helm of the club since 1986 and is expected to be Villas-Boas’ main opponent in the race for the presidency.
“I’m a candidate for the presidency of FC Porto,” Villas-Boas said in a statement.
Villas-Boas initially announced his candidacy in November and expressed his grievances regarding the intimidation he faced from certain factions of the fanbase.
The ex-Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Zenit St. Petersburg manager has made a commitment to revamp the club and introduce a women’s team.
