The Most Successful World Cup Players
Only a handful of players have won the World Cup more than once. Pelé holds the record as the only footballer to win three World Cups (1958, 1962, 1970).
He is followed by several other Brazilian legends such as Cafu, Ronaldo, and Garrincha, as well as several Italian double world champions (1934 and 1938), including Giuseppe Meazza and Giovanni Ferrari.
Lionel Messi, considered by many the greatest player of the modern era, crowned his career with World Cup glory in 2022. Other legends, including Diego Maradona, who inspired Argentina’s 1986 triumph, have also left their mark on the tournament.
Franz Beckenbauer and Lothar Matthäus likewise secured a single World Cup title, with Beckenbauer uniquely winning as both player and manager.
