Bayer Leverkusen emerged victorious in the derby match against local rival FC Koln on Sunday.

The tension was high from the start, with both teams showing their determination to come out on top.

Sportxparte reports that the game took a dramatic turn when Jan Thielmann of Koln was shown a red card for a challenge on Granit Xhaka, leaving Koln with 10 men on the field.

Leverkusen capitalized on this numerical advantage & began to maintain their dominance, controlling possession and & scoring opportunities.

The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Alex Grimaldo delivered a pinpoint cross to Patrik Schick, whose flick found Jeremie Frimpong at the back post. Frimpong made no mistake, slotting the ball into the net from close range to give Leverkusen the lead.

In the 73rd minute, substitute Amine Adli combined beautifully with Grimaldo, who unleashed a powerful shot that found the back of the net, doubling Leverkusen’s lead.

Despite Koln’s efforts, they were unable to break through Leverkusen’s defence, and the match ended with a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

This win puts Leverkusen in a strong position in the Bundesliga title race with 10 points clear of 2nd Bayern Munich, while Koln faces a difficult battle to avoid relegation.
