Cole Palmer Left Out Of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League Squad
Cole Palmer has not been included in Chelsea’s Conference League squad meaning he will miss Shamrock Rovers’ glamour tie against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
It is reported that the 22-year-old has been excluded for load management reasons during a season that is set to conclude with the Blues competing in the new Club World Cup.
Chelsea will play in five club competitions this season, with the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Conference League preceding the newly expanded Club World Cup, which begins in June next year and lasts a month.
The Blues qualify because they won the 2021 Champions League.
Palmer, who has scored one goal and provided four assists in the Premier League this season, withdrew from Lee Carsley’s England squad for upcoming games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.
Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana have also been left out of Chelsea’s European squad. The duo spent much of the 2023-24 campaign out through injury, and the club has decided to manage their minutes.
Blues captain, Reece James was included in the squad despite currently being sidelined with a hamstring injury, but fellow England full-back Ben Chilwell was not included.
Chelsea are one of 32 teams to have qualified for next summer’s Club World Cup, which is scheduled to run from June 15 to July 13.
The club named only 24 players despite being able to list 25 because the recent sales of homegrown players have left them short of the number of club-trained options that Uefa requires.
