In a must-win match, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will battle it out with Guinea Bissau today in their final 2023 AFCON group stage match.

Nigeria will aim to secure their qualification for the next round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) while Guinea Bissau will aim to at least record some points.

Sportxparte understands that Nigeria initially had a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their AFCON campaign, but they made a strong comeback by defeating hosts Ivory Coast 1-0. This victory kept their hopes of advancing to the next round alive.

Currently in second position, with the difference in goals scored separating them from first-placed Nzalanag Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, the Super Eagles need a win to secure their place in the next round, regardless of the outcome of the match between Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast.

On the other hand, Guinea Bissau’s Djurtus, who have no chance of progressing to the next round, will be determined to end their winless streak at the AFCON. They may see an opportunity to succeed against the Super Eagles, as they had previously defeated them in the AFCON qualifiers in 2023.

It is highly unlikely that Guinea-Bissau has encountered any fresh injury worries, as Ouparine Djoco is anticipated to remain as the goalkeeper.

In Nigeria’s previous encounter against Ivory Coast, Alhassan Yusuf sustained an injury and was substituted by Calvin Bassey, a defender from Fulham. Bassey is expected to retain his position in Monday’s match, as Yusuf is still recovering from his injury.
