Kylian Mbappe Sustains Broken Nose In France Win Over Austria

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, may have sustained a broken nose following a late collision with Kevin Danso during France’s Euro 2024 opening match against Austria.

This injury might potentially sideline him for the remaining group stage games.

In the 85th minute, Mbappe was brought down by Danso after a free-kick that he instigated himself.

Mbappe stayed on the ground for an extended period, his shirt stained with blood, indicating the intensity of the collision with the opposing central defender.

Journalist Saber Desfarges, reporting live from the pitch for TF1, told Les Bleus’ medical staff that he was suffering from a fractured nose.

Following France’s 1-0 win, Didier Deschamps expressed pessimism but is awaiting additional tests. Mbappe is set to undergo an MRI scan this evening to determine the severity of his injury.

Speaking to TF1 after the game, Deschamps admitted his star forward has likely broken his nose.

He said: “A broken nose? Apparently yes. His nose is not right at all. We’ll see. Obviously, it’s tonight’s negative. It’s only a nose, but it’s very bothering for us.”

Speaking to L’Equipe du Soir, former France team doctor, Fabrice Bryand, said that Mbappé’s absence could last at least ten days, which would mean that the captain could not make his return until the next round final in the best-case scenario.
