Ligue 1 Roundup: PSG Strengthen Title Grip As UCL Race Intensifies
It was a weekend of dramatic momentum swings in Ligue 1, where the title race, European qualification battle, and resilience under pressure all took centre stage.
PSG Take Control in Title Race
Paris Saint-Germain moved a step closer to retaining the Ligue 1 title with a composed 3–0 victory over Angers.
The visitors struck early through Lee Kang-in, who reacted quickest to convert after Achraf Hakimi’s initial effort was parried.
PSG maintained control throughout and doubled their lead just before halftime when Senny Mayulu finished off a swift counterattack.
Shortly after the break, Lucas Beraldo added a third, heading home from Lee’s corner to effectively seal the result. Despite Gonçalo Ramos being sent off in the 74th minute following a second yellow card, PSG’s dominance was never seriously threatened.
The win moves PSG six points clear at the top. While also keeping them sharp ahead of a crucial Champions League semifinal clash against Bayern Munich.
Lens Produce Remarkable Comeback but Lose Ground
RC Lens once again showed their fighting spirit, coming from 3–0 down to secure a dramatic 3–3 draw against Stade Brestois 29.
Brest appeared to have complete control in the first half. Goals from Daouda Guindo, Lucas Tousart, and Junior Dina Ebimbe gave the hosts a commanding advantage heading into the break.
However, Lens responded with determination in the second half. Substitute Florian Thauvin sparked the comeback on the hour mark. Before Abdallah Sima reduced the deficit further just four minutes later.
The equaliser arrived deep into stoppage time, as Allan Saint-Maximin curled home a superb finish to complete an incredible turnaround.
Despite the comeback, the dropped points could prove costly. PSG now holds a clear advantage in the title race, sitting ahead with a game in hand.
With a potentially decisive clash between the two sides scheduled for May 13.
Lyon Strengthen Champions League Push
Olympique Lyonnais boosted their chances of securing Champions League qualification with a hard-fought 3–2 win over AJ Auxerre.
Roman Yaremchuk was the standout performer, scoring twice, while Corentin Tolisso also found the net. Auxerre proved resilient, with Sinaly Diomandé equalising in the first half and Bryan Okoh pulling one back late on.
But Lyon held firm to secure all three points.
The victory lifts Lyon to 57 points, giving them a three-point cushion over fourth-placed Lille. And also strengthening their position in an increasingly competitive race for Europe.
Monaco Falter as Race for Europe Tightens
AS Monaco suffered a damaging setback in their European ambitions after squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2–2 with Toulouse FC.
Monaco raced into a 2–0 lead within 20 minutes and appeared to be in full control.
However, Toulouse fought back with goals on the hour mark and in the 90th minute, leaving Monaco six points behind Lyon and three points adrift of Lille.
With Rennes and Marseille also in contention. The battle for European places is becoming increasingly congested heading into the final stretch of the season.
