Manchester United Star Set For Potential Return Against Brentford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag provided an update on the potential return of defender Lisandro Martinez for their upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford.

Martinez, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since February, could make a comeback to the squad, bringing his composure & winning attitude back to the team.

In today’s press conference, Ten Hag expressed optimism about Martinez’s possible return, stating, “Yes, there is a chance he’ll be back in the squad. We have missed him every game because he brings composure to the team & a calmness to the team. At the same time, a winning attitude & he can express this very clearly. He can transfer that into the team & that contributes a lot to our levels.”

The Dutch manager also highlighted the progress of another key player, Luke Shaw, who is expected to return from a muscle injury before the end of the season. Ten Hag mentioned, “He is still on schedule & will return to our team.”

Moreover, the rise of 18-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been a positive development for United. Mainoo, a product of United’s youth academy, recently made his debut for England & has shown promise in his performances. Ten Hag praised Mainoo’s adaptability to high levels of play, stating, “We know what he is capable of, he can very quickly adapt to high levels.”

Martinez, who was signed by Manchester United from Ajax for a transfer fee of £47 million ($58.9 million) in the summer of 2022, reunited with his former Ajax coach, Ten Hag.

During the previous season, he featured in 45 matches across all competitions but was sidelined for the final nine Premier League games due to a foot injury. However, in the current campaign, he has only appeared in 10 matches.
