Neymar Confirmed Unavailable For 2024 Copa América Due To Injury
Brazil’s star forward, Neymar Jr, has been officially ruled out of contention for the 2024 Copa América tournament set to take place in the United States.
This announcement was made by the national team’s doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, confirming Neymar’s absence due to a significant knee injury sustained earlier.
The 31-year-old striker suffered a severe blow in October, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during Brazil’s intense World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay. Following the injury, Neymar underwent surgery two weeks later to address the damage.
With the Copa América scheduled to commence on June 20 and conclude with the final on July 14, Neymar’s recovery timeline does not align with the tournament schedule. Doctor Lasmar emphasized the cautious approach to Neymar’s recuperation, highlighting the importance of not rushing the process and risking further setbacks.
“At this stage, it’s premature for Neymar’s return. We mustn’t rush the recovery process and jeopardize his health by taking unnecessary risks,” stated Lasmar in an interview with Brazil’s Rede 98.
He further elaborated, expressing the expectation for Neymar’s readiness to coincide with the commencement of the 2024 European season in August.
The absence of Neymar, a prominent figure in Brazil’s national team, serves as a significant setback for their Copa América campaign.
However, the medical team’s primary focus remains Neymar’s full recovery and readiness for the forthcoming European season, prioritizing his long-term well-being over immediate tournament participation.
