Liverpool took over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League on a dramatic day that saw both the champions and title rivals Arsenal slip up.

Arne Slot’s team faced a challenging match before turning the tables to secure a 2-1 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.

That took the Reds above City, who were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at Bournemouth, while the Gunners slipped to fourth after falling to a 1-0 loss at Newcastle.

Manchester City lost away to Bournemouth

City was caught off guard at the Vitality Stadium as Antoine Semenyo gave the Cherries an early lead in the ninth minute, followed by Evanilson extending it after the hour mark. The hosts nearly scored a third when Marcus Tavernier struck the woodwork.

Pep Guardiola’s side set up a nervy finish with an 82nd-minute header from Josko Gvardiol but Bournemouth withstood late pressure to hold on, ending City’s club-record 32-game unbeaten league run

Liverpool appeared unlikely to capitalize on City’s misstep, trailing 1-0 at halftime due to a 14th-minute goal from Ferdi Kadioglu.

However, they quickly turned the game around with two goals in just three minutes first from a cross-shot by Cody Gakpo, followed by a powerful strike from Mohamed Salah.

Arsenal suffered a defeat against Newcastle

Alexander Isak scored the only goal as Arsenal came unstuck at St James’ Park. The Sweden striker headed home an inviting cross from Anthony Gordon in the 12th minute and Mikel Arteta’s laboured side were unable to find a reply.

Nottingham Forest beat West Ham

Nottingham Forest moved to third as they ran out 3-0 winners over 10-man West Ham at the City Ground.

Chris Wood gave Forest the lead with his eighth goal of the season before Edson Alvarez of the Hammers was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Anthony Elanga. In the second half, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ola Aina sealed the victory, putting the result beyond doubt.

Southampton claims their first league win

Southampton claimed their first league victory of the season with a 1-0 success against Everton after late drama at St Mary’s.

Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the match in the 85th minute, just moments after Beto had struck the woodwork for Everton. Beto later believed he had equalized, but VAR disallowed his attempt for offside.

Ipswich are still winless

Ipswich are still searching for their first league win since promotion after failing to hold on with 10 men against Leicester.

The Tractor Boys took the lead at Portman Road with a well-placed finish from Leif Davis. However, the Foxes were given a lifeline when Kalvin Phillips received a second yellow card and was sent off 13 minutes from the end.

The visitors left it late but Jordan Ayew snatched a 1-1 draw after combining with Jamie Vardy in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Wolves are also still winless after being pegged back in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Molineux.

All four goals occurred within 17 minutes in the second half, igniting the match after Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoring for Palace in the 60th minute. Wolves quickly turned the game around with rapid goals from Jorgen Larsen Strand and Joao Gomes, but Marc Guehi equalized for Palace with a tap-in.

Additionally, Palace had a late strike from Jean-Philippe Mateta disallowed.
