Virgil van Dijk Contemplates Liverpool Exit Following Lucrative Contract Proposal
Virgil van Dijk is reportedly contemplating a major free transfer to Saudi Arabia after receiving a staggering contract offer from Al Hilal.
The Dutch center-back recently stated that he hasn’t made a decision regarding his future with Liverpool, where his contract is set to expire this summer. He admitted that he is just as uncertain as anyone else about what his next move will be.
While Liverpool hopes to keep Van Dijk, clubs across the globe sense an opportunity to sign arguably the world’s best defender on a free transfer, and L’Equipe says Al Hilal has now made their first move.
The Saudi club has presented Van Dijk with a contract that would earn him more than €20 million (£16.8 million) in salary.
The offer is substantial enough that the 33-year-old is contemplating acceptance, though he has not yet responded to the proposal.
As he insisted after Liverpool’s Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, Van Dijk wants to keep his focus solely on the Reds’ Premier League run-in, with a final decision on his future not expected until the summer.
A potential move to Al Hilal could allow Van Dijk to remain alongside his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah. The superstar forward’s contract also expires this summer, with Al Hilal being considered the most probable destination for Salah.
However, a recent report has mentioned Barcelona as a possible contender for the Egypt international as well.
Van Dijk is also anticipated to receive offers from several European clubs, with Real Madrid, Inter, and Bayern Munich being mentioned as potential suitors.
Additionally, the Dutchman has fueled speculation about a possible move to PSG after he was seen conversing with the French club’s owner and sporting director following Tuesday’s defeat.
