Chelsea defender, Malo Gusto, has withdrawn from the France Under-21 squad with a thigh injury.

The full-back injured himself during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Crystal Palace and was replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk with just over 15 minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge.

The defender has now withdrawn from his nation’s Under-21 European Championship qualifying fixtures against Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“With Malo, we will see now what happens,” Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said after the game. “It looks like a muscle problem, so we will see.”

Club captain Reece James has not featured this season due to a hamstring injury sustained before the campaign’s start.

Additionally, Trevoh Chalobah and Alfie Gilchrist, who have previously played as right-backs, have both left on loan.

Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana has already withdrawn from the France senior squad alongside Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Ferland Mendy to continue his recovery following a long injury lay-off.

Chelsea’s first match following the international break is an away game against Bournemouth on September 14th.
