European Roundup: PSG Seals Ligue 1 As Inter Secures Double
The battles for titles, European places, and survival across the continent delivered major shifts this week.
Paris Saint-Germain tightened its grip on France, Inter swept to another trophy in Italy, and the relegation scrap in Spain grew even more chaotic.
Here’s how the weekend unfolded across Europe.
PSG Seal Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed their dominance in France with a decisive 2–0 win over Lens, securing their fifth straight Ligue 1 title.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck after 29 minutes, finishing a flowing move that cut through Lens’ press. Ibrahim Mbaye added a stoppage-time goal from close range, extinguishing any faint hope of a late upset.
PSG entered the match needing only a single point to mathematically seal the title. But they approached it with the urgency of a must-win fixture, controlling possession and limiting Lens to half-chances. The result moves them to 76 points, comfortably ahead of their challengers.
With domestic duties settled. All attention now turns to their Champions League showdown against Arsenal later this month.
The squad remains largely healthy, and the performance suggested a team sharpening its edges for Europe’s biggest stage.
Inter Complete the Double with Coppa Italia Victory
Inter capped off a dominant domestic season by defeating Lazio 2–0 in the Coppa Italia final at the Stadio Olimpico.
They took the lead inside 15 minutes when Adam Marušić misjudged a defensive header, steering the ball into his own net.
From there, Inter dictated the tempo. Their second goal came just before the interval, sparked by a lapse from Nuno Tavares. Marcus Thuram dispossessed the defender deep in Lazio territory and squared the ball for Lautaro Martínez, who tapped home with ease.
Lazio attempted to respond in the second half, pushing numbers forward. But Inter’s structure and game management suffocated the contest. A brief scuffle in the closing minutes illustrated the frustration simmering beneath Lazio’s surface.
The victory completes an emphatic double for Inter, who walk away with both the Serie A title and Coppa Italia. Which reinforce their status as the strongest side in Italy this season.
Alavés shocks Barcelona as La Liga’s Relegation Battle Erupts
In Spain, the relegation picture descended into further chaos as Alavés defeated newly crowned champions Barcelona 1–0.
Ibrahim Diabaté delivered the decisive moment just before half-time, reacting quickest when Barcelona failed to clear a corner.
Antonio Blanco nodded the loose ball back across the area, and Diabaté finished from close range.
The win lifts Alavés to 15th on 40 points. But the bottom half of La Liga remains compressed. Just five points separate eighth-placed Real Sociedad from 19th-placed Girona. Which means nearly half the league remains entangled in the struggle for safety.
Elsewhere, Sevilla mounted a stunning comeback to beat Villarreal 3–2. Trailing 2–0 inside 20 minutes. They clawed their way back through goals from Oso and Kike Salas before Akor Adams fired home the winner midway through the second half.
Espanyol created breathing room with a 2–0 win over Athletic Bilbao. And Getafe secured their survival with a 3–1 victory over Mallorca, highlighted by Martén Satriano’s brace.
The relegation battle is set to go down to the final matchday with momentum shifting almost weekly.
Manchester City Keep Pressure on Arsenal
Manchester City maintained faint hope in the Premier League title race with a clear 3–0 victory over Crystal Palace.
City struggled to break Palace down early, but the breakthrough arrived when Phil Foden accelerated the tempo with a clever backheel into space. Antoine Semenyo latched onto it and fired past Dean Henderson.
The goal opened the match up, and before half-time City doubled their advantage. Foden again unlocked Palace’s back line, this time releasing Omar Marmoush for a calm finish.
As Palace tired, City pushed for more. Savinho eventually sealed the result in the 84th minute after a precise pass from substitute Rayan Cherki.
The win extends City’s unbeaten run to 17 matches and keeps them within two points of Arsenal with two games remaining.
The path to the title remains narrow, but Guardiola’s side is still mathematically alive.
