Getafe Sanctioned For Racial Abuse Towards Sevilla Player
Getafe has been penalized by the Spanish Football Federation for racial abuse directed at Sevilla player Marcos Acuna.
The Argentine-back was subjected to disrespectfull & racist remarks, including being called a monkey and being told that his ancestry comes from monkeys during a match at Coliseum. As a result, Getafe has been fined €27k and issued a partial stadium closure for the area where the insults. The closure will be in effect for three matches, affecting all but one of their remaining home games this season.
Additionally, despite not being included in the match, the chants of ‘gypsy’ directed at Sevilla coach Quique Sanchez Flores have been reported to the authorities by’ Sevilla although the RFEF does not have the authority to penalize these actions. This incident is similar to the sanction imposed on Valencia last season when Vinicius Junior was racially abused at Mestalla, highlighting the ongoing issue of racism in Spanish football.
The RFEF said in a statement that the closed area in the stands must display a visible message condemning violent, racist, xenophobic, & intolerant acts in football & support fair play.
