During the ceremony held at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor Fubara announced a generous cash gift of N20m to Nwabali, hailing his impressive performance at the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
In addition, the governor nominated him for the prestigious Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) award, which is the second-highest honour bestowed upon individuals who have excelled in their respective fields, including esteemed politicians such as serving and former governors.
The Super Eagles’ entourage, including Coach Jose Peseiro and Finidi George, were also present at the event and received a well-deserved cash reward of N30m for their remarkable efforts in the AFCON tournament.
As for the triumphant Rivers Hoopers, the State Basketball Team, Governor Fubara bestowed upon them a generous gift of N50 million for emerging as the champions of the National Basketball League.
The governor particularly commended the Rivers-born Stanley Nwabali for his excellent goalkeeping in the Super Eagles team, playing alongside other patriots in the just concluded AFCON, which has made Nigeria proud.
He said: “I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali and our wonderful team. We are here again in just about four months after your winning a local trophy.
“Today, you have brought a national trophy. So, when people say or talk behind us to ask what we are doing, we are achieving those things that are not, maybe, seen physically, but they give joy and fulfilment.
“If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance and administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best.”
Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of Rivers people engaging in positive actions that will enhance the reputation and bring honor to the state.
He is dedicated to establishing a supportive atmosphere that motivates the residents to follow his lead in transforming the global perception of Rivers State.
