Phil Foden showcased his skills as he netted a hat-trick to secure a 4-1 win for Manchester City against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Foden’s 19th, 20th, & 21st goals of the season highlighted his best-ever scoring form, propelling City further in the Premier League title race.

Operating more centrally in the midfield, Foden’s dynamic play has been a key asset for City this season. Speaking about his evolving role, Foden expressed his growing comfort in the position, stating, “I seem to have some technical players in the pockets and I think out wide I can do that job but I prefer in the middle,” he told TNT Sports.

“I think this year I’m growing into the game. The manager spoke on rhythm and slowing the game down and I think I’m showing that as well”.

Acknowledging the guidance from the manager, Foden highlighted his progress in finding the right balance in his game, noting, “The manager spoke on rhythm and & the game down and I think I’m showing that as well.” He emphasized the importance of arriving in the box to create goal-scoring opportunities, a strategy that has significantly boosted his goal tally this season.

Despite not being the designated free-kick taker, Foden took the opportunity to step up & convert a set-piece, scoring his first career goal from a free-kick. Reflecting on this unexpected moment, Foden humbly admitted, “I don’t practice them. I don’t even know why I took that one.” “Julian (Alvarez) was on them. I just felt confident at the time and said ‘Julian do you mind me having this one’ and it paid off in the end.”
