Serie A Roundup: Inter March Toward Double As Roma Seal Wild Comeback
The Serie A run-in delivered another dramatic weekend as Inter Milan continued their dominance.
Juventus struck in record time, Como completed a stunning rise to Europe, and Roma staged one of the most chaotic late turnarounds of the season.
At the bottom, Cremonese reignited their survival hopes.
Lautaro Drives Inter’s Momentum Toward a Potential Double
Inter Milan may have already sealed the Scudetto. But there was no sign of complacency as Lautaro Martínez delivered another decisive display in a 3-0 victory over 10-man Lazio.
The Inter captain struck once, assisted another, and extended his lead in the Capocannoniere race with his 17th league goal of the season.
The opener came inside six minutes. Marcus Thuram’s flick from a long throw-in set up Lautaro for a sharp close-range volley.
Inter doubled their advantage shortly before halftime. Lautaro combined with Andy Diouf in a flowing left-side move before rolling the ball across for Petar Sucic to blast into the top corner.
Lazio’s hopes collapsed completely when Alessio Romagnoli received a straight red card midway through the second half for a studs-up challenge on Ange-Yoan Bonny an incident that could have caused serious injury. Henrikh Mkhitaryan added Inter’s third to complete the victory.
With the league already secured and the Italian Cup final against Lazio looming on Wednesday. Inter now stand on the brink of a memorable League Cup double.
Vlahović Scores Record-Breaking Goal as Juventus Edge Lecce
Dusan Vlahović stunned Lecce by scoring after just twelve seconds, producing Juventus’ fastest Serie A goal since records began in 2004-05.
His instinctive strike ultimately secured a narrow 1-0 win vital in the race for Champions League qualification.
Juventus had two further goals disallowed for offside in the second half. But they managed the match professionally.
The victory moved them into third place, one point above AC Milan and four clear of fifth-placed Roma. Lecce, meanwhile, remain just four points above the relegation zone and could face further danger depending on Cremonese’s result.
Racism Allegations Overshadow Cagliari’s Defeat
Cagliari’s 2-0 home loss to Udinese was overshadowed by troubling racism allegations after the final whistle. Udinese forward Keinan Davis claimed that Cagliari defender Alberto Dossena called him a “monkey” during the match. Dossena strongly denied the accusation, and both clubs publicly supported their players. While awaiting league investigation.
Cagliari remains nine points above the drop zone. But the incident cast a somber shadow over their survival campaign.
Como’s Fairytale Continues as European Qualification Is Secured
Seven years ago, Como were competing in Italy’s fourth division. Next season, they will play European football for the first time in their 119-year history and the Champions League is still within reach.
A 1-0 win away at Hellas Verona, sealed by Anastasios Douvikas, confirmed that Como will finish no lower than sixth, guaranteeing at least a Europa Conference League place.
Their meteoric rise began with the 2019 takeover by Indonesian billionaire brothers Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono, and continued under the leadership of coach Cesc Fàbregas.
With Milan and Roma both dropping points. Como now sit just two points off the top four with two matches left. Their dream season may yet get even better.
Milan Booed as Fans Exit Early in Another Collapse
AC Milan endured a hostile evening at San Siro, where jeers echoed throughout the stadium and hundreds of fans exited early after Atalanta surged to a 3-0 lead just minutes into the second half.
Milan’s late rally almost produced an improbable comeback. With Strahinja Pavlović pulling one back and Christopher Nkunku converting a stoppage-time penalty.
Matteo Gabbia then came agonisingly close to a dramatic equaliser when his header skimmed wide in the dying seconds. The 3-2 defeat marked Milan’s fourth loss in six matches and further inflamed fan unrest.
Roma Stage Extraordinary Stoppage-Time Turnaround
One of the weekend’s most dramatic matches unfolded at Parma, where Roma produced an incredible stoppage-time surge to win 3-2. Parma appeared to have sealed victory when Mandela Keita struck in the 87th minute, but Roma refused to fade.
Substitute Devyne Rensch equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time before becoming central to the game’s final controversy. In a tussle with Parma’s Sascha Britschgi, both players fell to the turf.
The referee initially awarded Parma a free kick but reversed the decision after VAR review. And instead issued Britschgi a second yellow card and awarded Roma a penalty.
Donyell Malen converted in the 11th minute of stoppage time, completing the stunning comeback. And keeping Roma firmly in the Champions League race.
Vardy Boosts Cremonese Survival Bid
Jamie Vardy’s first goal since January arrived at the perfect moment for Cremonese as they secured a vital 3-0 win against relegated Pisa. Pisa’s discipline imploded early, with Rosen Bozhinov sent off after two yellow cards in 24 minutes.
Vardy struck shortly after, and Federico Bonazzoli extended the lead early in the second half. And Pisa was reduced to nine men when Felipe Loyola saw red for a reckless challenge.
David Okereke rounded off the scoring, moving Cremonese to within one point of safety.
Fiorentina and Genoa Secure Safety
The weekend concluded with Fiorentina and Genoa playing out a tense match. But an uneventful 0-0 draw was enough to mathematically confirm safety for both clubs.
With relegation anxieties eased, they can now plan for next season without pressure.
