The head coach for the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Hugo Broos, has expressed his disappointment with his side’s defeat to Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final.

Broos, who expressed optimism that his team will end their journey in the AFCON tournament on a good note, said they would play the third place match with determination.

SportXparte reports that South Africa’s hope for the 2023 AFCON title was cut short on Wednesday after suffering a 4-2 defeat on penalties against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The former champions will now shift their focus to the upcoming third-place match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This match will take place at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday ahead of the final on Sunday.

“We played a very good game against Nigeria. It was a great performance and we showed that we are a great team again,” Broos told a press in Abidjan on Friday.

“When you exit after 120 minutes, it’s always a huge disappointment. When you play so good, the disappointment is so big. The game tomorrow is special.

“It depends a bit on which team will be mentally recovered because also, for DRC, it was difficult to lose like that,” the Bafana Bafana coach stated.
