Alphonso Davies Ends Speculation With Final Decision On Real Madrid Move

Canada defender, Alphonso Davies, will not be moving to Real Madrid as a free agent this summer, as he has reportedly signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Bayern Munich.

Davies was into the last six months of his current Bayern contract and has been heavily pursued by a number of Europe’s top sides.

Real Madrid has consistently been regarded as the primary contender for the Canada international, with previous speculations hinting at interest from Premier League clubs as well.

At one point, Bayern seemed resigned to the possibility of losing Davies.

However, as discussions regarding a new deal at the Allianz Arena progressed, confidence began to build that he might ultimately choose to secure his long-term future in Germany.

Reports last month suggested that an agreement was inching closer, and The Athletic has now confirmed that Davies has committed to a new four-and-a-half-year contract that ties him to Bayern until the summer of 2030.

With negotiations wrapped up, Bayern will now look to formalize Davies’ new contract and bring a firm end to the prospect of losing the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

This news serves as a considerable setback for Madrid, though it aligns with the recent shift in narrative. Los Blancos have begun to come to terms with their chances of acquiring Davies and are now focusing their attention on Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold instead.

For Bayern, however, Madrid’s threat may not be over just yet. They are among the sides chasing versatile midfielder Joshua Kimmich who, like Davies, is approaching the end of his current contract.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has expressed optimism that Kimmich will follow Davies in renewing his contract; however, it seems there is still considerable effort required to secure the Germany international’s commitment.
