Serie A Preview: Inter Milan On The Brink Of Scudetto
A decisive weekend awaits in Serie A as the Scudetto edges closer to changing hands and clubs across the league fight for their own objectives.
Inter Milan can mathematically secure the title, Napoli’s defence hangs by a thread, and the chase for Champions League places grows fiercer.
Here is the full, in-depth look at the action to come.
Como vs Napoli
Defeat would formally end Napoli’s title defence on Saturday evening, and a challenging trip to Stadio Sinigaglia arrives at the worst possible time for the outgoing champions.
Ten points behind Inter with four games remaining, Napoli know their Scudetto reign is essentially over. Their focus has shifted to securing Champions League qualification, currently holding a narrow cushion over AC Milan.
Last weekend’s emphatic 4-0 win against Cremonese briefly restored momentum. Scott McTominay opened the scoring before three strikes around the interval sealed the result.
Yet Napoli’s away form under Antonio Conte has left recurring doubts, with nine defeats on the road across all competitions marking their worst travel record since 2014.
The reverse fixture ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw in Naples. And Conte’s men now face a Como side that has repeatedly troubled them.
Como won this fixture last season, then knocked Napoli out of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals earlier this year before themselves falling to Inter in the semi-finals.
Cesc Fàbregas’s young, tactically flexible side continues to punch above its weight. And although they recently ended a four-match winless run by beating Genoa 2-0, the race for fourth place is no longer in their control.
Still, Como’s 2026 form has been extraordinary. Only Inter and Napoli have earned more points since the turn of the year. And no team in Europe’s top five leagues has kept more clean sheets this season.
Team News
Napoli expect captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo to finally return after a long injury layoff, leaving Romelu Lukaku, David Neres, and Antonio Vergara as the only absentees. Conte is unlikely to disrupt a winning team, meaning Rasmus Højlund will again spearhead the attack in his 3-4-2-1 structure.
The Danish forward has scored ten times since returning to Serie A. While Scott McTominay has netted nine and could become the first midfielder this century to score in four straight top-flight away games.
Como will rely on their potent forward pair Tasos Douvikas and Nico Paz, both with twelve league goals. Martin Baturina and Assane Diao should complete the attacking unit. Nico Kuhn and Jesús Rodríguez remain secondary options. Only Jayden Addai is absent, with Mergim Vojvoda and Sergi Roberto back in full training.
Prediction: Como 2-1 Napoli
Como can ignite Inter’s title celebrations by defeating Conte’s men. Napoli looked sharp last weekend but remains unreliable away from home, and Fàbregas may outmanoeuvre his former manager.
Atalanta vs Genoa
After four games without a win, Atalanta are scrambling to salvage their European hopes. Their elimination from the Coppa Italia on penalties was followed by a chaotic 3-2 defeat to Cagliari.
Despite Gianluca Scamacca’s brace dragging them back into the contest. One point from their last three matches has left La Dea seven points adrift of the top six, making Saturday’s home fixture a must-win.
Raffaele Palladino faces a familiar opponent. He has won all five of his career Serie A matches against Genoa across his spells with Monza, Fiorentina, and Atalanta. The Bergamo club has not lost at home to the Grifone for ten years.
But Genoa, under Daniele De Rossi, has grown into the season. After hovering near relegation, they won four of six matches before losing to Como last weekend.
Now sitting comfortably away from danger with an eleven-point cushion. They can approach the run-in with freedom, dreaming of posting rare consecutive away wins in the league.
Team News
Atalanta is near full strength aside from Lorenzo Bernasconi’s season-ending knee injury. Nicola Zalewski and Éderson are pushing for recalls, while Scamacca and Nikola Krstović continue their battle for the central striker role.
Former Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi returns to Bergamo, having scored fifteen long-range goals during his time at the club.
Genoa may again field Jeff Ekhator and Vitinha up front, with Lorenzo Colombo and Caleb Ekuban competing for inclusion. Brooke Norton-Cuffy is available but not ready to start.
Only Tommaso Baldanzi remains sidelined, while goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has recovered from last week’s knock.
Prediction: Atalanta 2-1 Genoa
With survival assured, Genoa may subconsciously ease off. Atalanta, still fighting for European access, should edge a tight contest.
Sassuolo vs AC Milan
Secure in mid-table and eyeing a top-ten finish. Sassuolo have exceeded expectations since their Serie B title triumph last season. With twenty-three points from their last thirteen matches, they rank among Serie A’s best performers in 2026 and have won five of their last seven home games.
AC Milan, by contrast, enters with pressure mounting. Their 0-0 draw with Juventus ended any faint title dreams, and Champions League qualification now hangs in the balance.
Despite stabilising with four points from their last two matches, scoring has dried up for the Rossoneri averaging fewer than one goal per game across the last nine matchdays.
Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic are in poor form. And Massimiliano Allegri’s pragmatism has limited Milan to their second-fewest shots per game in the past twenty seasons.
The positive news is defensive solidity. Fifteen clean sheets from thirty-four games represent their strongest return in over a decade.
They are also unbeaten in eight away matches against Sassuolo, though the Neroverdi have taken points from six of the last eight head-to-heads.
Team News
Milan suffered a major blow with Luka Modrić’s facial injury, ruling him out for the season. Samuele Ricci and Ardon Jashari are the leading candidates to replace him.
Matteo Gabbia has returned to fitness, a key reinforcement given Milan’s loss rate skyrockets in his absence.
Up front, multiple forwards are competing to replace the misfiring Pulisic and Leão, including Christopher Nkunku, Niclas Füllkrug, and Santiago Giménez.
Sassuolo welcome the return of their talisman Domenico Berardi, who has scored eleven times in nineteen meetings with Milan. Arijanet Murić’s starting place remains uncertain. While Filippo Romagna, Edoardo Pieragnolo, and Fali Candé are out for the season.
Prediction: Sassuolo 1-1 AC Milan
Milan’s attack lacks fluency and Sassuolo are dangerous at home. A point feels the most realistic outcome.
Bologna vs Cagliari
Once in the hunt for Europe, Bologna now appears destined for a mid-table finish. Consecutive defeats to Juventus and Roma have stalled their push, and their home form has collapsed dramatically.
Seven losses from nine home games in 2026 represent one of the worst runs in the club’s modern history.
Thankfully for Vincenzo Italiano, Bologna have not lost at home to Cagliari in twelve attempts. The Sardinian side were beaten 2-0 in October’s reverse fixture and have a bleak recent record against Bologna.
Cagliari, however, arrived buoyed by a thrilling 3-2 win over Atalanta. Rookie striker Paul Mendy scored twice early before Gennaro Borrelli clinched the result, bringing Cagliari within touching distance of safety.
Eight points clear of the drop, they have won two of their last three matches. But their away form remains poor with three straight defeats.
Team News
Bologna are missing Nicolò Cambiaghi, Nicolò Casale, Łukasz Skorupski, and João Mário. Thijs Dallinga and Jon Rowe are doubtful. While Federico Bernardeschi is fit again and competing with Riccardo Orsolini, who has six goals in his last six meetings with Cagliari.
Cagliari are without Borrelli and Mendy, both injured after their heroics last weekend. Mattia Felici, Riyad Idrissi, and Leonardo Pavoletti also remain unavailable.
Luca Mazzitelli may return, but Fabio Pisacane must decide whether to replace his injured forwards with Semih Kılıçsoy, Andrea Belotti, or a more defensive midfield configuration.
Prediction: Bologna 2-1 Cagliari
Cagliari are close to safety but weakened up front, while Bologna should stabilise enough to record a rare home win.
Juventus vs Hellas Verona
With a three-point lead in the race for fourth. Juventus can move firmly within reach of Champions League football by beating relegation-bound Verona.
Luciano Spalletti has transformed Juve’s defensive metrics since November. They face the fewest shots on target in the league and enter this match on a nine-game unbeaten run with four straight clean sheets.
Verona, however, is on the brink. Last week’s draw with Lecce left them needing a near-miracle to survive, sitting ten points from safety with four matches remaining.
Their attack has collapsed, scoring only once in six games. And their league-high defeat tally across Europe’s top five leagues further highlights the scale of the crisis.
History provides no solace Verona have never won away to Juventus in Serie A, losing twenty-nine of thirty-four meetings.
Team News
Juventus are without Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik, but Dusan Vlahović and Kenan Yıldız are set to return to fitness. Yıldız has registered sixteen goal contributions, and Juve’s win-rate drops significantly when he does not start. Though his recurring knee issue could see Jeremie Boga deputise again.
Verona remain without Suat Serdar, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Daniel Oyegoke, Cheikh Niasse, and the suspended Nicolas Valentini.
Gift Orban, their leading scorer, has not scored since January and was recently dropped after clashing with a supporter.
Prediction: Juventus 3-0 Hellas Verona
Juve’s elite defensive structure should overwhelm Verona’s goal-shy attack. Another one-sided defeat appears inevitable and could confirm Verona’s relegation.
Inter Milan vs Parma
Inter Milan stands on the brink of greatness. A win over Parma, or favourable results in Naples and Reggio Emilia, would mathematically secure their nineteenth Scudetto.
Cristian Chivu’s side appears ready for the celebrations, having dominated all season domestically. Their +32 home goal difference is the club’s strongest since the late 1950s. And their eighty league goals trail only Barcelona and Bayern across Europe’s major leagues.
Last week’s 2-2 draw with Torino halted their winning run. But Federico Dimarco continued his extraordinary season with two more assists, breaking the all-time Serie A assist record.
Marcus Thuram remains in electric form, averaging one goal involvement every forty-six minutes in April and surpassing the fifty-goal milestone for Inter.
Parma, meanwhile, has quietly constructed a successful season. Back-to-back 1-0 wins over Udinese and Pisa ensured safety and raised hopes of a top-half finish.
A compact defensive approach has yielded twelve clean sheets. And Nesta Elphege has become a standout super-sub, contributing in each of his last three appearances.
But history is one-sided. Parma have not beaten Inter at San Siro since 2018 and only twice in the last quarter-century.
Team News
Inter remain without Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Luis Henrique. But Lautaro Martínez and Alessandro Bastoni are expected to return. Thuram, Dimarco, Matteo Darmian, and Ange-Yoan Bonny all face their former club, along with Chivu, who began his senior managerial career with Parma.
Parma misses only long-term absentees Matija Frigan and Benjamin Cremaschi. Elphege is pushing to start but Mateo Pellegrino and Gabriel Strefezza remain favourites in the front two.
Prediction: Inter Milan 2-0 Parma
Inter should seal the title in front of their home crowd. Parma are resilient but lack the attacking force needed to spoil the party.
