Ligue 1 Preview: European Chases And PSG’s Title March

‎Matchday 33 arrives with major stakes scattered across the French European qualification, survival scraps, and the impending coronation of Paris Saint-Germain.

‎From Strasbourg’s late push to Marseille’s European fight and Monaco’s bid to catch Lille. This weekend promises decisive shifts before the final run-in.

‎Below is your full, in-depth preview of all key fixtures.

‎Angers vs Strasbourg

‎Strasbourg travel to the Stade Raymond-Kopa knowing their European hopes can only survive with perfection. A 2-1 defeat to Toulouse last week dented their momentum. And leaving them eight points adrift of Monaco and needing maximum points from their final fixtures.

‎Angers, meanwhile, looks like a team already thinking about summer. Their 3-1 defeat to Auxerre was their seventh straight match without a win, and the drop in intensity has been evident.

‎After being one of the league’s most stable defences earlier this season conceding one or fewer in 11 league matches. They have since shipped two or more seven times in 2026.

‎At home, Angers are unpredictable. They have collected points in two of their last three outings. But could lose consecutive Ligue 1 matches at Raymond Kopa for only the second time this year.

‎Historically, this has been a favourable fixture for Angers, who have won two of the last three competitive meetings. But Strasbourg’s away resilience tells a different story unbeaten in four straight Ligue 1 away matches.

‎They have also fought back from conceding first in four of their last five road games.

‎Team News

‎Angers’ injury list adds further instability. Marius Courcoul (knee), Harouna Djibirin (ankle), and Yassin Belkhdim (forearm) remain doubtful. While Amine Sbai is suspended. Goduine Koyalipou, who converted a late penalty last weekend, should lead their attacking efforts.

‎Strasbourg remains without top scorer Joaquin Panichelli (ACL). Emmanuel Emegha has a leg issue, while Guele Doue (flu), Valentin Barco (ankle), and Aaron Anselmino (hamstring) are likely absentees.

‎Sam Amo-Ameyaw, who scored last weekend, will once again be relied upon.

‎Prediction: Angers 0–2 Strasbourg

‎Strasbourg has far more riding on this game, and Angers’ drop in defensive commitment suggests the visitors will exploit their lack of urgency.

‎Le Havre vs Marseille

‎Marseille’s European push is disintegrating at the worst possible time. A 3-0 loss to Nantes and three straight games without victory leave them chasing a fading dream.

‎Five points behind Lille, even a Conference League place is under threat.

‎Le Havre, however, approaches this fixture with survival firmly in their own hands. Five consecutive draws have pushed them four points clear of the playoff zone.

‎And a win here would mathematically secure their Ligue 1 status. They have also lost only one of their last nine home matches.

‎Le Havre has a dreadful record against Marseille 11 straight defeats in all competitions, four of which were in Normandy. OM won this fixture 3-1 last season.

‎Team News

‎Le Havre are sweating on Abdoulaye Toure (knee) and Noam Obougou (groin), while Mbwana Samatta remains questionable. Captain Arouna Sangante returns from suspension. Issa Soumare, their leading scorer, again carries the attacking burden.

‎Marseille’s squad remains heavily hit Nayef Aguerd (groin), CJ Egan-Riley (muscle), Geoffrey Kondogbia (thigh), and Bilal Nadir (hamstring) are concerns. Geronimo Rulli’s back injury means Jeffrey de Lange is set to start again.

‎Amine Gouiri and Igor Paixao should feature after their recent return from knocks.

‎Prediction: Le Havre 0–3 Marseille

‎This fixture historically belongs to OM, and Le Havre’s recent inability to finish games strongly suggests Marseille will finally break out of their slump.

‎Monaco vs Lille

‎The race for France’s final Champions League spot takes centre stage in Monaco. Lille sits fourth, four points above the hosts. But Monaco’s strong run of form six unbeaten at home has reignited their push.

‎Sébastien Pocognoli’s men know a win gives them a real chance to hunt Lille down in the final week. They have consistently finished strong in May, scoring 10 goals in their last three home matches played in the month.

‎Lille, however, remains unpredictable. Excellent away from home recently with five straight wins, they’ve shown a habit of dropping points after scoring first.

‎They have not won at Stade Louis II in Ligue 1 since 2009 but did beat Monaco in the reverse fixture.

‎Team News

‎Monaco face multiple absentees Mohammed Salisu, Takumi Minamino, and Kassoum Ouattara (all knee), Vanderson (thigh), and Paris Brunner (hamstring). Stanis Idumbo is out with a shoulder issue. Caio Henrique pushes for a starting spot after recovering from injury.

‎Folarin Balogun and Ansu Fati both scored last week.

‎Lille are missing Marc-Aurele Caillard (elbow), Marius Broholm (leg), and Nabil Bentaleb (infection). Noah Edjouma (thigh) is also sidelined. Hamza Igamane and Ousmane Toure are long-term absentees.

‎Hakon Haraldsson, now on eight goals, continues to be their key threat.

‎Prediction: Monaco 2–1 Lille

‎A tight match, but Monaco’s home form and Balogun’s resurgent scoring edge tilt this high-stakes affair in their favour.

‎Metz vs Lorient

‎Metz’s season has unravelled spectacularly. Without a win in 20 Ligue 1 matches and relegated weeks ago, they now look to salvage pride in their final home match. Their defensive collapse 72 goals conceded is the clearest indicator of their demise.

‎Lorient, mid-table and comfortable, has little to play for beyond position. But their inconsistency has prevented any meaningful upward push.

‎Only two away wins all season and a six-match winless run paint a picture of a side lacking killer instinct on the road.

‎Despite that, Lorient are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Metz, all of which ended in draws.

‎Team News

‎Metz will be without Joseph Mangondo and Boubacar Traore (both knee). Alpha Toure is a doubt. Gauthier Hein is their lone bright spark this year with 15 goal contributions.

‎For Lorient, Theo Le Bris (hamstring) is still out. Pablo Pagis leads the line with 10 goals. While Bamba Dieng aims to add to his nine-goal haul.

‎Prediction: Metz 1–1 Lorient

‎Both sides struggle for consistency. Metz cannot be trusted to win, and Lorient cannot be trusted away. A draw feels inevitable.

‎PSG vs Brest

Fresh from eliminating Bayern Munich to reach a second consecutive Champions League final, Paris Saint-Germain returns to domestic action just six points from clinching the Ligue 1 title.

‎Their 1-1 draw in Munich showed their tactical maturity, with Ousmane Dembélé scoring early and the defence holding firm. Victory over Brest would effectively secure a fifth straight league title, especially if Lens slips earlier in the weekend.

‎Brest arrive winless in six, shipping goals freely, and fresh off a demoralising 4-0 defeat to Paris FC. Their away form has been bleak, with just two clean sheets in 16 matches. And history makes things even worse they have lost 20 of their last 21 meetings with PSG.

‎Team News

‎PSG may rotate heavily. Bradley Barcola, Ibrahim Mbaye, and Gonçalo Ramos are candidates to start.

‎Marquinhos may be rested again. Achraf Hakimi (hamstring) and Quentin Ndjantou remain out.

‎Brest misses Bradley Locko and Soumaila Coulibaly (injuries), while Kenny Lala is suspended. Daouda Guindo returns from suspension.

‎Prediction: PSG 3–0 Brest

‎Even with rotation, PSG should dominate. Brest’s defensive collapse and historically poor record in Paris point to another comfortable home win.
