Super Eagles Strikers Shine Across Europe, Sending AFCON Alert
Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria’s Super Eagles strikers are in red-hot form for their respective clubs, signaling an exciting prospect for head coach Jose Peseiro.
In Germany’s Bundesliga, Victor Boniface showcased his scoring prowess once again, contributing to Bayer Leverkusen’s dominant 4-0 victory over Bochum. Despite starting from the bench, the 22-year-old seized the moment after being brought on in the 67th minute, netting Leverkusen’s fourth goal just two minutes later.
His impressive form continues with 10 goals in 16 league appearances for Die Werkself this season.
Meanwhile, in France, Terem Moffi emerged as the hero for OGC Nice in their 2-0 win against RC Lens. After recovering from a minor injury that sidelined him during Les Aiglons’ previous 3-1 defeat to Le Havre, the 22-year-old striker made a stunning impact coming off the bench.
Moffi replaced Gaetan Laborde in the 73rd minute and swiftly fired Nice into the lead with a penalty just two minutes later. He then sealed the victory with another goal in the 77th minute, tallying six goals in 16 league appearances this season.
Adding to the striking prowess, Cyriel Dessers, a key member of the Super Eagles’ provisional AFCON squad, showcased his talent for Scottish club Rangers. Dessers found the net in the 28th minute, capitalizing on James Tavernier’s cross to score his ninth goal across all competitions.
His recent consistency shines through with four goals in the last five league games for the Gers.
The outstanding performances of these Super Eagles strikers across Europe serve as a compelling indication of their form and potency, undoubtedly catching the attention of fans and Coach Peseiro as they gear up for the impending Africa Cup of Nations.
