Barcelona managed to clinch a crucial 1-0 victory over Las Palmas, extending their unbeaten streak to 11 games since the announcement of Xavi’s departure at the end of the season.

Raphinha’s fifth goal of the season proved decisive in a match filled with drama & excitement.

The game started with high intensity as Robert Lewandowski, fresh from his heroics with Poland in Euro 2024 qualification, had an early goal disallowed for offside. The Las Palmas goalkeeper, Álvaro Valles, displayed his skills with a smart save from Lewandowski’s subsequent attempt, keeping the scoreline level.

However, the deadlock was broken when Raphinha found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Valles’ fortunes took a turn for the worse when he received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Raphinha, reducing Las Palmas to 10 men for the majority of the game.

Barcelona took advantage of the numerical superiority, with João Félix making an immediate impact off the bench by providing the assist for Raphinha’s goal. Despite Félix hitting the woodwork later in the game, Barcelona held on to secure the win & close the gap on league leaders Real Madrid to just five points.

The Catalan giants have been in impressive form recently, keeping five consecutive clean sheets in La Liga and conceding only three goals in their last eight matches across all competitions. This defensive solidity, coupled with their attacking strength, has instilled hope among the Barcelona fans for a successful end to the season.

On the other hand, Las Palmas, despite a recent winless streak, has had a commendable season overall, sitting just five points away from seventh place in the league table. A victory against Barcelona could potentially redefine their season & provide a much-needed boost after suffering three consecutive defeats.

Looking ahead, Barcelona faces a tough test in the Champions League quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg, presenting an opportunity for Xavi’s side to display their quality on the European stage.
