France, who had already secured their qualification, put on an impressive performance in Nice on Saturday, defeating Gibraltar with an astonishing scoreline of 14-0. Notably, nine French players contributed to the scoring, showcasing the team’s strength and depth.

France’s dominant 14-0 victory over Gibraltar on November 18, 2023, was a momentous achievement, setting a new benchmark for the largest margin of victory in European Championship qualifying. Furthermore, it marked France’s largest-ever triumph in international football. Right from the start, France took control of the game, benefitting from an own goal in the third minute. They continued to find the back of the net in the first half, with goals from Marcus Thuram, Warren Zaïre-Emery (making his debut), Kylian Mbappé, Jonathan Clauss, and Kingsley Coman.

Gibraltar’s chances further diminished when Ethan Santos was shown a red card in the 18th minute for a reckless challenge on Zaïre-Emery, reducing them to ten men. This disadvantage made the task even more daunting for the already overmatched visitors, allowing France to capitalize fully. Adrien Rabiot and Coman scored in quick succession, extending the lead to 10-0, and Ousmane Dembélé added another goal before halftime. In the second half, Mbappé completed his hat-trick with two goals, while Olivier Giroud scored twice in the closing stages to complete the rout.

France’s 14-0 triumph showcased their remarkable attacking prowess and will surely be a night that Gibraltar would prefer to erase from memory. For France, it served as a perfect preparation for the upcoming European Championship. This victory not only surpassed their previous record for the largest winning margin but also established a new European record for the most significant victory in the history of the Euro tournament.
